{"id":3139,"date":"2013-07-16T16:53:52","date_gmt":"2013-07-16T20:53:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nickm.com\/post\/?p=3139"},"modified":"2013-07-16T16:55:18","modified_gmt":"2013-07-16T20:55:18","slug":"media-archaeology-labs-new-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nickm.com\/post\/2013\/07\/media-archaeology-labs-new-media\/","title":{"rendered":"Media Archaeology Lab&#8217;s New Media"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lori Emerson has been running an excellent facility at the University of Colorado at Boulder that is a kindred lab, and an inspiration, to my <a href=\"http:\/\/trope-tank.mit.edu\">Trope Tank<\/a> here at MIT.<\/p>\n<p>This is the <a href=\"http:\/\/mediaarchaeologylab.com\">Media Archaeology Lab,<\/a> which has recently launched a new <a href=\"http:\/\/mediaarchaeologylab.com\">site<\/a> (with <a href=\"http:\/\/mediaarchaeologylab.com\/posts\/blog\/\">blog<a\/>) and has also begun (as a lab) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mediarchaeology\">to tweet.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Colorado lab, like the Trope Tank, offers working systems from decades past to support research, teaching, and artistic\/literary work. The MAL is ahead of us in several ways, for instance by providing extensive information about its holdings in the form of an <a href=\"http:\/\/mediaarchaeologylab.com\/catalogue\/inventory-list\/\">inventory.<\/a> They even have a <a href=\"http:\/\/mediaarchaeologylab.com\/other\/next-cube\/\">NeXT cube,<\/a> like we do &#8211; although I think the retail price estimate on that page is missing a digit. The Trope Tank only has such information on placards placed on the hardware itself, as discussed in <a href=\"http:\/\/trope-tank.mit.edu\/TROPE-12-03.pdf\">our technical report on the setup of the lab,<\/a> but perhaps we&#8217;ll look to better publish what we&#8217;ve gathered here in months to come.
